Created in 2022 by Jerome M. Westheimer, this generous award provides stipends and support for research-enhancing activities for undergraduate students to implement the Westheimer Science Research Fellows program. The program's objectives are: a) to provide undergraduate students with specialized scientific and research training opportunities, and b) to enhance mentorship bonds between the professors and student recipients, as well as among the cohort of undergraduate students participating in the program.

To be elibible for consideration an applicant must meet the following criteria:

  1. Meet the minimum entrance and continuing academic performance standards of the university or it's successor in effect at the time of any award
  2. Maintain full time enrollment as established by the university unless the student is nearing completion of their degree program and does not need full time enrollment
  3. Enroll as an undergraduate student in the College of science at the UNT
  4. Be actively conducting research in relevant stem related fields in the College of science
