Created in 1999 by Herbert & Mary Lee Wiist. To be eligible for consideration, an applicant for the Scholarship must possess the following characteristics:

  1. Students applying f om Petrolia High School, Petrolia, Texas or successor high school receiving Petrolia area students will be given first consideration. Students applying from any other Texas high school with a graduating class of 100 or less will be given the next consideration
  2. Meet the minimum entrance and continuing academic performance standards of the appropriate department(s) in the College of Arts and Sciences in effect at the time of any award;
  3. Maintain full time enrollment at the University, unless they have fewer than twice the number of semester hours required to be full time remaining in their degree program;
  4. Enroll as a full-time student in the sciences or mathematics at the University; in the event no applicant possesses this characteristic, then the funds will be unused until such time as an appropriate candidate qualifies for an award.
