With over 3,000 undergraduates, our college offers a variety of academic programs within the disciplines of Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics. Upon graduation, our students pursue careers in health professions, secondary teaching, continue their education with graduate research and so much more.
Many of these majors offer both a Bachelor of Arts (BA) or a Bachelor of Science (BS). If you're not sure which one is right for you, check out our information on the differences between a BA and a BS below.
Biological Sciences Department
- Biochemistry - BA || BS
- Biochemistry with Forensic Science - BS
- Biochemistry with Secondary Teaching - BA || BS
- Biology - BA || BS
- Biology with Forensic Science - BS
- Biology with Secondary Teaching - BA || BS
- Ecology for Environmental Science - BS
- Medical Laboratory Sciences - BS
Chemistry Department

Bachelor of Arts (BA) vs. Bachelor of Science (BS)
For most of our degree programs, a BA will usually require less math/science courses and allow more electives than a BS.
What are your goals?
A BA is great for students who want to teach at the high school level or go into a particular industry--like business or medicine.
A BS is great for students who may want to continue their studies into graduate school, go into academia, or do research professionally.
If you're not sure which degree program is right for you, we are happy to guide you to the choice that's right for you and your goals.
Take a College of Science tour
The College of Science (COS) walking tours are held in person every Monday and Friday on the Denton campus during the fall and spring semesters. The tour will highlight our science facilities and student support services with an opportunity for guests to speak with a COS student ambassador and academic advisor to learn more about our programs. COS tours can be scheduled through the UNT Tour website by clicking Academic College Tour. Be sure to book your tour at least 48 hours in advance, spots fill up fast!
If you'd like to learn more about UNT as a whole including admission requirements, housing, and overall student life, we encourage you to book a general UNT campus tour (UNT Tours website) in addition to your College of Science academic tour.
