Students may obtain academic credit for coursework taken at other institutions or through credit by examination. Additionally, students may use work experience or coursework taken at a non-traditional institution to obtain credit or place into a course on campus. See below for an overview of each option:
UNT is a transfer-friendly institution offering 144 undergraduate degree plans that may use the coursework taken at other institutions. However, not all coursework that transfers to UNT is applicable to every degree. Use the guidelines below to help you navigate the process to transfer your credit.
Transferring Credit from a Texas Community College
If you plan to transfer to UNT from a Texas community college or completed dual credit courses in a Texas high school, use our Transfer Guides to determine equivalent courses. If you are a current UNT student and want to take courses at your local community college, work with your academic advisor to determine what you can take to progress towards your degree.
Transferring Credit from a Four-Year or Out-of-State Institution
If you plan to transfer to UNT from another four-year or out-of-state institution,
visit our Future Students page to schedule an appointment for an unofficial evaluation. If you are a current UNT
student and want to take courses at a four-year or out-of-state institution, work
with your academic advisor and/or faculty advisor to determine what you can take to progress towards your degree.
UNT awards undergraduate college credit on the basis of select local and national examinations. This is subject to University and department restrictions. Contact your academic advisor for details.
Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate
If you took AP or IB credit courses in high school and completed the associated exam, send your scores to UNT to obtain course credit. Minimum score requirements apply. See the current University catalog for required scores and additional information.
