Students can enroll themselves into most classes without issue. However, there are cases when something will prevent successful enrollment. One major help here can be the UNT Registration Page, which is updated each semester as a general guide to all things registration!

Enrollment holds may prevent students from enrolling because an action must be taken first. Click on the Tasks tile in your MyUNT Student Homepage to determine if you have any holds. You can read the description to determine how to remove the hold.
Common holds include:
Academic advisors can release the Advising Required hold only. Students must complete the Registration task to release the UNT Registration Guide hold. Any other holds must be released by the issuing offices. Check the description of the hold to determine who to contact to get the hold released.
Students must meet the prerequisites for a class in order to enroll in the course on their own. If you meet all the prerequisites but cannot enroll, you will need to contact the department housing the class to get assistance with enrollment.

When emailing departments, remember to include the desired course prefix, course code, section number, and class number (e.g., COS 1100.009 (1234)). This will help the department representative enroll you in the correct course.
Some departments require students to receive special permission to enroll in certain classes. If a class requires a permission code and cannot enroll, you will need to contact the department housing the class to get assistance with enrollment.

Students in good academic standing are permitted to enroll in up to 19 hours in the fall and spring terms and in up to 18 hours in the summer terms.
Students with a GPA above 3.000 may be eligible to take more hours provided they meet the requirements listed in the University Catalog. If you wish to take more hours and you meet the requirements for an overload exception, you can email the COS Advising Center (cosadvising@unt.edu) with your request. An advisor will review your request to determine if you meet the requirements and make any necessay adjustments.
