COS Student Ambassadors Launch Peer Mentorship Program

The College of Science Student Ambassadors are hosting weekly office hours to provide mentorship and guidance to other COS Students. They began this program during the Spring 2021 semester to incorporate more peer to peer mentorship within the College of Science and harness the long-term value of sharing advice and wisdom with others who share similar goals.

"Advice hits students differently when it comes from their peers, so we wanted to change up the Ambassadors program to better utilize their incredible leadership and expertise so they can help other students," said COS Academic Advisor Olivia Abbott.

The student mentors are offering both in-person and remote office hours in order to cater to different students' needs and schedules.

"Mentorship is for anyone and everyone!" said COS Ambassador Kiran Dualla. "Whether you're testing out a major or 100% confidant in your major, our mentorship can help you navigate the ins-and-outs of the College of Science and offer our expertise as students who have been in your position. From discussing the pros and cons of professors or majors to what organizations to join, we are here for you and whatever you may need!"

As this is only their second semester of the mentorship program, the COS Ambassadors are learning too. "It is a joy to be able to relay information to other students you wish that you had, but it can be challenging because everyone has a different experience so it doesn't always mean that someone in a similar position would feel the same way about the situation as you," said Brandy Sorrells.

Ambassadors will be attending some class sessions of COS 1100, the College of Science Success seminar, to provide their expertise to the incoming freshman class. They have also been helping with admissions events such as preview day to welcome prospective students to campus. Check out the info below for more details about their office hours and how they can help their fellow students succeed!
