Advisor Spotlight: COS Academic Advisor Olivia Abbott

Meet Olivia Abbott, academic advisor in the College of Science! Olivia attended Loyola University in Chicago for her double major in Psychology and Global and International Studies, with a minor in Educational Policy. While in undergrad, she started working as a Peer Advisor and the scholarship chair for her sorority, which is how she discovered she had found her calling in helping others. She loves building relationships with students and coaching them through the highs and lows of college to their ultimate academic success.

What is your favorite part about your job?

My favorite part of my job is connecting with students on a personal level and helping them find individualized solutions to any problem that they are facing. I also love working with the COS ambassadors, a small group of leaders within the COS who are student representatives for prospective students and mentors for current students. It is so incredible to watch them grow as leaders and use their personal insights and knowledge to help other students.

What is the last thing you read for fun?

Theft By Finding by David Sedaris and The Hunting Party by Lucy Foley - I love a good thriller and anything that will make me laugh!

What is your favorite thing about UNT?

I love how there is a place for everyone on this campus. The community is diverse and there are so many ways that students can get involved and feel at home here.

What do you do in your spare time?

I love doing DIY projects around my house, listening to podcasts, playing with my dogs, and watching old movies!

What is the best advice you can give to our COS students?

Take advantage of all of the resources that UNT has to offer! There are thousands of people who work here all because they want students like you to be successful, so you will always be able to find support.
