UNT Physics Alumna Dr. Dana Rosencranz to Deliver Fall 2020 Virtual Commencement Address

Dr. Daniela "Dana" Rosencranz earned both her Masters ('98) and PhD ('02) in Physics at the University of North Texas and continues to be involved in university affairs as a dedicated alumna and valuable member of the College of Science Advancement Board. She is currently the Chief Medical Physicist at Texas Oncology (part of the U.S. Oncology Network) managing the medical physics Radiation Therapy at three cancer centers in Northeast Texas (Paris, Greenville, and Mt. Pleasant sites). For three years she managed the Texas Onocology support group she created in Paris, Texas to better understand and help those she serves.

Over the years, Dr. Rosencranz has fostered influential partnerships between UNT and health organizations, and assisted with fundraising to establish the Dr. Jerome Duggan Memorial Scholarship in UNT Physics.

Acclaimed for her dedication to her patients, Dr. Rosencranz's work was featured in The North Texan 2018 article, "Cancer Fighters" and highlighted in the alumni section of the College of Science viewbook.

"Dr. Rosencranz was always interested in physics thanks to her father, who holds degrees in mathematics and physics," The North Texan article states. "Her career in medical physics took root when Floyd McDaniel, UNT Regents Professor of physics, was visiting a conference in her native Romania and suggested she come to UNT for graduate school. After earning her degrees, she worked for two years establishing and supervising a lab at Advanced Molecular Imaging Systems in Denton, a company that made products for nuclear medicine."

In 2013, Dr. Rosencranz received the Medical Dosimetry and Physics Award by US Oncology / McKesson Network for an outstanding achievement in Radiation Oncology & Diagnostic Imaging Annual performance.

When she is not working tirelessly to save lives, Dr. Rosencranz is an avid mountain-hiker and uses her passion for hiking to raise money for cancer research via the non-profit Moving Mountains for Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (MMRF). Last June she climbed Mount Washington, and she is training to hike Mt. Kilimanjaro in September 2021.

In 2019, Dr. Rosencranz was welcomed as the keynote speaker of the Physics Graduation Awards Ceremony, and the College of Science is grateful for her generous participation in this Fall's virtual commencement event.

Along with Dr. Rosencranz, Dean Gao, and all our faculty and staff, we extend our sincerest congratulations to our students graduating and are excited to celebrate the tremendous accomplishments of the Class of 2020. Earning a degree during such uncertain times is an emblem of UNT graduates' courage, adaptability and determination.
