UNT Biology Alumni’s Entrepreneurial Enterprise Ranks in Top Inc. 5000 List

Dr. Thomas Black, who received his undergraduate degree in biology from the University of North Texas in 2001, has gone on to achieve great success in not just the medical field, but business leadership as well. Even as an undergraduate he was beginning a career in real estate at his job overseeing residential mortgage loans at Wells Fargo Financial. Following graduation from medical school, he also began investing in real estate, eventually shifting his focus from single-family units to multifamily housing and hotels before co-founding his growing investment company, Napali Capital.

Recently Inc. Magazine released its annual Inc. 5000 list, awarding Napali Capital, LLC No. 21. The Inc. 5000 list is the most prestigious rankings of the nation's fastest-growing private companies, and this is the first time the Southlake-based company appears on the list. The College of Science congratulates Dr. Black on this impressive achievement in entrepreneurial success.

Napali Capital partners with physicians to increase their wealth beyond traditional investment platforms. To date, Napali works with over 600 investors in 40 states.

"We are honored to be recognized among Inc.'s incredible list of fastest growing companies," said Dr. Black. "We have found an interesting and important niche working with physicians and other professionals in the medical, legal, and engineering communities. We continue to help support these professionals who are tired of trading their time for money."

For the past two years, Dr. Thomas Black has served member of the College of Science's Advancement Board, a group of dedicated alumni and friends that meet regularly to discuss fundraising and other initiatives that will help advance education and research in our college. He is working with fellow alumni to create an endowed Health Professions Scholarship. If you are interested in contributing to this scholarship or joining our team working to make a big impact on the future of young scientists, health professionals, and entrepreneurs, please contact our Director of Development Meghan Dours to learn more.
