SECC Campaign Kicks Off to Help Journey to Dream

The College of Science community is participating in the State Employee Charitable Campaign (SECC) throughout the month of October to raise funds for Journey to Dream, a local nonprofit that helps at-risk and homeless teens overcome adversity and live purposeful lives. We invite all colleagues, family, and friends to join us in raising money for this important cause throughout the month.

Participation is not only simple, it's fun! Visit the College of Science Advising Office in Hickory Hall (Suite 283) and play the candy-corn guessing game: how many candy corns are in the skull-shaped drink dispenser? Each guess is just $1 (must be made in person), and the winner (closest guess) receives the candy and the skull! Stop by the office to cast your guesses before October 26, when the winner will be announced.

Gifts can also be made to Journey to Dream via cash, check, or online, and employees are also encouraged to participate in university events taking place throughout the month.

Campaigns for SECC are run by employees across the state of Texas at the institutions of higher education where they work. The charities that benefit are vetted and must be 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations who provide direct or indirect health and human services and who spend no more than 25% of funds raised on administrative costs. The campaign provides UNT employees with a way to give to some of their favorite charitable organizations and make a positive impact in their community. Last year UNT raised $165,991 for charitable organizations in the North Texas region.
