Nancy Terry Receives June COS E=mc² Award

The Dean is pleased to recognize Nancy Terry as a recipient of this month's COS Excellence in Mastering Challenges Continuously (E=mc²) Award! This award was established by Dean Quintanilla to recognize outstanding efforts among full-time staff members within the College of Science and its departments. Nancy started working with Teach North Texas in August of 2012 as a Master Teacher/Lecturer, and she is currently the Field Experience Coordinator for the program.

"Everyone at TNT works really hard for the students and for the program as a whole. The results that we produce together are much greater than any of us could accomplish individually," said Nancy. "It is a privilege to get to work with a group with such a sense of purpose; I feel like I am representing the TNT team with the acceptance of this award!"

"Nancy is the glue, heart, and soul that keeps TNT together and makes TNT successful," said her supervisor and Director of TNT, Dr. Rudi Thompson. "She works tirelessly in the service of our students, the College, and this University and deserves to be acknowledged for her knowledge, talents and skills."

Prior to coming to UNT, Nancy served in various roles in secondary education, teaching math in middle school, high school, and to industry professionals. With certifications in both mathematics and journalism, she also has experience in private school administration, as well as in gifted and special education. She said her daily tasks at TNT generally reflect the shift of the academic calendar, varying at different times of year based on student and faculty needs.

"In the outward facing elements of my work at TNT, I have the privilege of establishing and coordinating partnerships with many great districts and educators in the DFW Metroplex," said Nancy. "Within the program itself, I get to work with TNT students at various points in the TNT sequence of courses."

Of the many things she enjoys about her job, Nancy said she loves hearing from TNT alumni sharing exciting stories about their classrooms and attending conferences for professional development.

"Hands down, my favorite part of my role at TNT is supporting the people of TNT in our common mission of producing excellent secondary math & science teachers for generations to come," said Nancy. "We have the absolutely the best students, and our team is amazing."

Outside of TNT, Nancy enjoys connecting with family and her church. She has two "goofball Golden Doodles" and two cats who supervise the whole family.

Shirl Richardson of the Biological Sciences department was also a recipient of June's E=mc² Award. Dean Quintanilla plans to continue giving this award to two outstanding COS staff members every month.
