Meet UNT Biological Sciences Lecturer Dr. Lisa Welch

The College of Science welcomed Dr. Lisa Welch, previously of Weatherford College, as a lecturer to the UNT Biological Sciences department this semester. Dr. Welch will be teaching Biology for Majors, Human Anatomy, and Physiology. Her primary interests are in reproductive physiology and discovering how students best learn how to shift to critical thinking in the sciences. She enjoys working with students to ensure they have a good foundation to build on throughout their college experience.

"I love physiology and how the human body works," said Dr. Welch. "Because I find it fascinating, the best feeling is when my students also find that passion, when they have those important moments of realization and put it all together."

Dr. Welch mention that one of the deciding factors in joining the University of North Texas was because of the commitment to student success and serving a diverse student population. She understands that everyone comes from different backgrounds and experiences so she strives to meet students where they are so they can work together to help them reach their goals.

"I was a first generation college student and a non-traditional student when I returned to complete my Master's and PhD," she said. "I think this helps me relate to my students to ensure they're receiving the best educational experience."

When she's not teaching, Dr. Welch tends to her garden and keeps bees. She's also participated in several half marathons and has hiked the Grand Canyon and Half Dome.
