Meet TNT’s New Lecturer, Marissa Arevalo

The College of Science is pleased to welcome Marissa Arevalo to Teach North Texas as one of their newest Lecturers. TNT is UNT's innovative math and science secondary level teacher preparation program where students gain hands-on teaching experience as they earn their degree. As a UNT alumna who received her BA in Mathematics with a minor in Secondary Education through TNT herself, Ms. Arevalo is excited to return to the UNT campus as an educator.

"I was so thrilled to receive the opportunity to come back to the school that I love, to teach in a new program where I get to help students who may not feel like math is their strong suit," she said. "While in school I had strong connections among students and teachers alike, and to return to this community feels amazing."

Ms. Arevalo's UNT journey started in the Fall of 2014, and she graduated with her BA in the Fall of 2017 as an Emerald Eagle Scholar. In the upcoming year, she will be teaching three sections of Math 340 (Integrated Pre and Beginning Algebra).

"I am excited to teach my students how to develop their own understanding of mathematical content that suits their needs," she said. "I also hope to continue developing my own knowledge and abilities in teaching. I believe that we learn from our students just like our students are learning from us."

Ms. Arevalo has two dogs that she loves dearly, a chihuahua-terrier mix, named George, and a French Bulldog, named Lady.
