Meet TNT’s New Lecturer Laura Gabriela Lozano

The College of Science is pleased to welcome Laura Gabriela Lozano to Teach North Texas as one of the program's newest Lecturers. Ms. Lozano, a UNT alum ('14) who earned her BA in Mathematics (with a focus on Secondary Education and a minor in Spanish), has always dreamed of teaching math at a collegiate level, and is excited to realize that dream with TNT!

Teach North Texas is UNT's innovative math and science secondary level teacher preparation program. At TNT, students gain hands-on teaching experience while learning effective classroom teaching techniques.

"I am most excited to teach my students how to become thinkers and gain confidence in a subject that they may not be comfortable with," said Ms. Lozano.

As a native Texan, Ms. Lozano earned her Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Texas in Arlington in 2017. Prior to coming to teach at UNT she taught for one year in Mesquite ISD, two years in Mansfield ISD, and five years in Arlington ISD. She is looking forward to sharing her novel approach to mathematics education with her students in Math 340 and Math 350 this coming semester.

"The way that we are designing the course is different than what it has been in the past," she said. "We are wanting students to go from just 'doing math' to 'thinking through the math.'"

To unwind, Ms. Lozano enjoys a good coffee and pastry. She said her goal this year is to give it her all to help her students while still being the best mom she can be for her family.
