The College of Science is pleased to welcome Nancy Joykutty back to Teach North Texas as a Lecturer. TNT is UNT's innovative math and science secondary level teacher preparation program where students gain hands-on teaching experience as they earn their degree. Ms. Joykutty earned both her undergraduate and graduate degrees from UNT and said she is very happy to be back on campus as a full-time educator.

"When the opportunity came to work here, especially for the Teach North Texas program (which I graduated from), I couldn't turn down the opportunity," she said. "I am excited to guide the next generation of educators and help continue the growth of this excellent program."

This semester, Ms. Joykutty will be teaching TNTX 1100, a secondary teacher preparation course.

"This is the first course that TNT students take, and it is where they get to jump into the world of teaching and experience what it's like to be out in the field," she said. "TNT students actually get to teach prepared lessons at local elementary schools and interact with young students from the very beginning to see if being a teacher is right for them."

Ms. Joykutty's future in education has always been bright. In 2020, while completing her final requirements for her master's degree in interdisciplinary studies, she was honored with TNT's Outstanding Master Teacher Award.

"My personal goal is to help guide and inspire future secondary math and science educators," she said. "It's not an easy job, especially post pandemic, but I hope that the experiences and lessons that I have learned from being a high school chemistry teacher can help me guide students on their own educational journey."

Outside of being an educator, Ms. Joykutty considers herself an escape room enthusiast and has a perfect track record of successful attempts...so far!
