Meet Teach North Texas’ New Lecturer Anthony Hufford

The College of Science is pleased to welcome Anthony Charles Hufford back to Teach North Texas as a Lecturer. TNT is UNT's innovative math and science secondary level teacher preparation program where students gain hands-on teaching experience as they earn their degree. A proud alumnus, Mr. Hufford was a first-generation college student when he earned his B.S. in mathematics with a minor in secondary education from UNT in 2013. In 2020, he earned his M.Ed. in Curriculum & Instruction (Mathematics) from UT Arlington.

"As a graduate of UNT, I've always felt attached to the university on some level. When Dr. Ruthanne Thompson from Teach North Texas reached out about an opportunity to lecture, I couldn't say no," he said. "I've been in the high school classroom for the past ten years; this is an opportunity to grow and push myself in new areas and make a difference in higher education."

Mr. Hufford will be teaching Integrated Pre- and Beginning Algebra in the coming semester. He said he is looking forward to helping students enhance their confidence, self-efficacy, and problem-solving skills.

"I want them to walk away with foundational math knowledge, but also confidence in themselves that will carry them through other math and non-math courses during their time at UNT," he said. "I want them to achieve and feel success in beginning algebra concepts where they may not have felt that success before."

In 2021-22 Mr. Hufford was awarded the Coppell ISD Secondary Teacher of the Year. He is proud to bring ten years of educational experience back to the Teach North Texas program.

"I'm excited to return to UNT as faculty," he said. "Being back on campus has been nostalgic and heart-warming, seeing all the university is doing to grow, develop, and change."
