Career Success Advice with UNT Math Alumna, Emerald Christle

Meet Emerald! She graduated with her Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics with a certificate in Actuarial Sciences in May 2014. For their Soar Beyond Series, the UNT Career Center caught up with Emerald for advice for current students, and how UNT helped her to succeed and SOAR BEYOND!

When you started at UNT, what were your plans after graduation? How have these plans changed?

When I began my education at UNT, I did not have a set career plan. I knew how easily plans could change during one's college career so I decided to focus on my studies to see what career path my interests would lead me to.

What advice do you have for prospective or current students as they decide what they want their next steps to be?

When it comes time to look for a job/career/internship, I highly recommend taking advantage of every resource UNT has to offer. Go to as many career fairs as you can, utilize the career center for help with your resume and interviews, and don't think any of this would be worthless, beneath you, or think you already have all the answers. You may come across a job you would have never considered but now sounds interesting or you may come across a tip that can be a game-changer on your resume or in interviews. Thinking about life after college can be daunting and these resources are here to make the transition a little less stressful!

How, if applicable, did the Career Center help you?

I didn't utilize the Career Center as much as I wish I had. However, I did go to the Career Center for help with my resume. They were very knowledgeable and provided useful tips I incorporated into my resume.
