Advisor Spotlight: COS Associate Academic Advisor William Willis

Welcome our newest Associate Academic Advisor in the College of Science, William Willis! Will is a double-graduate from UNT, first with a BA in Applied Arts and Sciences and later a Master's degree in Education. For the last several years, he's worked as a residence hall director in both Colorado and Wisconsin. Will says he is excited to return to UNT, home of the Mean Green!

Get to know Will in this brief interview, and be sure to contact our Advising Office if you need to schedule time with one of our excellent academic advisors. Both in-person and zoom appointments are available.

Q: Why did you get into academic advising?

A: I had great advisors while in my undergrad at UNT, even when switching majors in my last couple of years. I wanted a chance to pass on that positive experience to a new generation of students.

Q: What is your favorite part about your job?

A: Helping students through tough choices with significant ramifications. I like to be a guide, giving advice but not directions.

Q: What is the last thing you read for fun?

A: A book of poetry by W. B. Yeats.

Q: What do you do in your spare time?

A: I mostly play video games with my friends that I've made all over the country. I love to get out and hike too, when the weather agrees.

Q: What is your favorite thing about UNT?

A: When I was a student, I couldn't walk across campus without seeing someone I knew. It was a huge place, but I still found a tight knit community to be a part of.

Q: What is the best advice you can give to our COS students?

A: The race is about more than just the first hurdle. Pace yourselves and don't quit if you stumble!
