2020 Research Day Poster Session Winners Announced #UNTCOSRD

Despite nearly all UNT events being canceled due to coronavirus concerns, the College of Science still had a successful poster session for the Research & Graduate Studies' annual Research Day- online! The last-minute decision to move the event from a traditional in-person poster contest to online the week of May 20 allowed the impactful research of our students to reach a broad audience. Thanks to our corporate partners, faculty, students, and staff, this UNT research was shared with nearly 20,000 Twitter users and the global scientific community.

Congratulations to the three winners of the virtual poster session: Cynthia Archambault, Nooshin Nasiri, and John Femi Oyetoro. Click each name to view their poster via Twitter:

Cynthia Archambault from Dr. Yan's lab (UNT Chemistry) on her poster titled "Activating Chemical Bonds with Mechanical Forces."

Nooshin Nasiri from Dr. Omary's lab (UNT Chemistry) for the poster titled "Ultra-bright Fluorescent PLGA Nanoparticles Containing Pt(II) Complex for Detection and Imaging Applications."

John Femi Oyetoro from Dr. Perez's lab (UNT Physics) for the poster titled "Multi-Layer Transition Metal Dichalcogenide Encapsulation of Reactive Van der Waals Materials for Stable Heterostructure Devices."

"I am very proud of all the COS researchers and our students for getting this going so quickly," said Dr. Verbeck. "This was an incredible event. Our students are doing incredible research. I thank them for all they've done and continue to do to make the College of Science and UNT shine."

You can learn more about UNT's response to COVID-19 at https://healthalerts.unt.edu. Many have asked how they can help us support UNT students during these challenging times, so the university created a fund to help students who have immediate and pressing needs related to COVID-19.
