The Department of Mathematics is pleased to announce the

2019 Annual Integration Bee

A contest for undergraduates

with the best skills in evaluating indefinite integrals

riday, April 12

3:00 pm

GAB 104

All undergraduate and high school students are eligible to participate.

Come get to know each other, win prizes, and enjoy free food!

Prizes are $75, $50, and $25 certificates that can be used to pay tuition!

Here is a checklist of integration methods you can use to win the Integration Bee:

  • Basic techniques:
    • Integrals of powers and of trigonometric functions.
    • Substitution.
    • Integration by parts.
    • Partial fraction decomposition.
    • Trigonometric substitutions.
  • Tricky stuff:
    • Integrals of powers of trigonometric functions.
    • Integrals of hyperbolic functions.
    • Completing the square.
    • Elimination of radicals by substitution.
    • Substituting the tangent of a half-angle

Rules: The contest consists of elimination rounds in which contestants find antiderivatives of given functions. As the contest progresses, functions increase in complexity. Contestants who wrongly evaluate two integrals are disqualified from succeeding rounds. Results are displayed during the contest only by (confidential) participant numbers; only the winners are made public.

Non-UNT Students Welcome! The Integration Bee is open to undergraduate and high school students from any institution. Please bring a school photo id to the competition.

To participate in the Bee: Just come to GAB 104 on April 12 at 3pm with something to write with and a good attitude!
