Biography

Virnin Bonner was born in Frankfurt, Germany but raised here in Texas! Virnin earned both his undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of North Texas (#GoMeanGreen) making him very familiar with the student experience here at UNT. Virnin transferred to UNT from a community college and his higher education experience started when he began working for the Housing Department here while still serving in the U.S. Army. Working in the Housing Department allotted Virnin the unique experience of working in Student Affairs and living amongst First Time In College Students as well as Transfer Students and guiding them along their paths to success. Virnin was previously an Academic Advisor in the College of Science and enjoys helping students reach whatever goals they hope to attain.

Intersectionality is an everyday experience for Virnin as a Black Man, a Veteran, and a First Generation Student. This allows Virnin to relate to students in a way that feeds into his Advising Philosophy which is centered on the supporting of students through any and every event that they experience, or have experienced, that shapes the way they view the world. From military training, mental health training, diversity training, and recent safety training, Virnin is well versed in various modalities to encourage, guide, and actively support students from all walks of life.

Virnin was also selected to receive the 2021 UNT Special Recognition Award, one of the university's most prestigious awards to honor an outstanding member of the UNT community.

Biography

Lizette Ozog was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois and worked at Loyola University Chicago for nearly ten years. Her experience as an undergraduate science major coupled with her work in Loyola's M.A. in Medical Science (MAMS) Program helped fuel her passion for working with students who want to pursue careers in the health professions. For the last five years she served as a Pre-Health Advisor, supporting a wide variety of groups ranging from prospective students and families, current students, alumni, and graduate students. Additionally, she ran Loyola's Post-baccalaureate Pre-Health program, which focused on supporting career-changers and non-traditional students as they worked towards their goal of attending health professional school.

As a Latina, Lizette grew up steeped in the Puerto Rican culture and is closely tied to her roots, and because of this, shares a deep appreciation for learning about other cultures and the unique lens through which we view our experiences. Lizette has completed Loyola's Ally training in support of LGBTQI+ students, and Loyola's Share the Dream training to provide a safe space for undocumented students to share their dreams and concerns.

Biography

Todd was born and raised in Richardson, Texas and has worked for the University of North Texas for nearly ten years. He joined the Office of Health Professions in May 2015, working as the Senior Academic Counselor for almost five years. His experience with career questioning in 2014 led him to pursue a job in financial advising, but he quickly realized his true passion was to serve college students. As a result, not only does he help students become the new generation of healthcare professionals, but he also enjoys counseling students who doubt their career path and calling in life. His greatest joy is to help all students feel valued by taking an interest in their lives, listening to their concerns, and creating plans to reach their personal and professional goals. Regardless of who you are, where you come from, or where you want to go, Todd is committed to helping you identify and fulfill your purpose in life.

In his spare time, Todd serves in the College and Young Adults ministries at his local church, and enjoys reading, drawing, listening to music, and working on his house. He is also UNT's 2019 Advisor of the Year.
