In light of recent social distancing protocols encouraged by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, all in-person UNT events have been canceled or postponed, including the College of Science's annual Research Day event, which celebrates the work of the dedicated COS undergraduate and graduate students conducting research while recognizing and collaborating with corporate affiliates.
In order to continue supporting our students and maintain academic continuity across our science and mathematics programs, COS Research & Graduate Studies is continuing to host the research poster session online in a virtual format via Twitter, in lieu of the in-person Research Day originally scheduled for Friday, March 20. Over 40 COS students will be presenting their research posters in the digital format. The virtual event can be attended online by searching for tweets under the official hashtag #UNTCOSRD.
"It's deeply inspiring to see everyone working to make sure this top-notch research is given due credit and consideration," said College of Science Dean Su Gao. "I am so proud to witness the resilience and flexibility of our students, faculty, and staff in the face of these challenging times."
A preview of the hashtag was shared in advance with the corporate affiliates of the college, which includes LaCore Labs, a company recently celebrated for their gift of $1M to establish a new Research Innovation Center at UNT. Sponsors and other Twitter attendees are invited to ask questions and engage with the students and faculty throughout the duration of the virtual event on Friday.
"Our corporate sponsors will be given the first opportunity to peruse the research posted online and reach out for further information, but we're excited for this work to be more widely available to the scientific community overall," said Dr. Guido Verbeck, Associate Dean of COS Research & Graduate Studies. "We look forward to seeing how our affiliates and others in the scientific community will engage with our students while considering new collaborative opportunities with the university."
Awards will be given to the top three research posters presented.
You can join our annual Research Day event by following the College of Science and COS Research & Graduate Studies on Twitter, and use the hashtag #UNTCOSRD to explore the poster session and be a part of the international conversation.
The College of Science thanks all of our students, sponsors, faculty, and staff for their cooperation and understanding at this time. On March 19 all UNT students will receive detailed information regarding instruction plans for the remainder of the spring semester, and the Dean's office will continue to keep everyone informed with news and system updates as appropriate via Facebook and Twitter.
