UNT College of Science and HSC College of Pharmacy Announce 3+4 Accelerated Degree Partnership

The University of North Texas College of Science and the University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth, College of Pharmacy have partnered to offer a faster, cheaper option for students earning a bachelor's degree while attending pharmacy college.

The agreement would allow students in the HSC pharmacy program to earn dual credit for classes from their first year in the pharmacy college, which also would apply toward a Bachelor of Arts in biology from UNT Denton.

"This is a fantastic opportunity for students interested in becoming America's future pharmacists. For those who wish to complete their bachelor's degree, in addition to receiving a PharmD, the agreement will provide a time and cost-efficient pathway," said Todd Lang, assistant dean of health professions at UNT Denton. "Moreover, in taking upper-level science coursework at UNT, students will be better prepared for the rigorous pharmacy curriculum. Students also can pursue dual degree programs at HSC College of Pharmacy, such as the PharmD/MPH, PharmD/MS, or PharmD/PhD. This is not an option for those who only complete pharmacy prerequisites without earning a bachelor's degree."

The reverse articulation agreement complements the variety of health career options and pre-professional pathways UNT offers. Benefits for the students include a reduced cost for the completion of an undergraduate degree due to only paying once for the dual credit classes that would apply toward both degrees and eliminating a full year toward earning both degrees.

New students and students already in the pharmacy program who may not have finished their degree before transferring, are eligible to take advantage of this new option.

"Overall, at UNT, our mission is to help students achieve their academic and professional goals by eliminating unnecessary barriers and creating pathways that promote long-term success. With the UNT Denton/HSC College of Pharmacy partnership, our students are one step closer to transforming the lives of their future patients and our healthcare system as a whole," Lang said.
