The UNT College of Science is pleased to welcome Julie Thompson to the UNT Mathematics department as one of their newest lecturers teaching at UNT Frisco. This semester she will be teaching classes in Linear Algebra, Probability Models, and College Algebra.

"I have so many great friends and wonderful colleagues here at UNT," said Julie, who received both her BA and MS in pure mathematics here, as well as her teaching certification through Teach North Texas. "I have come across so many opportunities to grow as a person and teacher here, and the chance to begin my career as a lecturer at UNT Frisco is very exciting to me!"

Julie said she cares a lot about her students and it's important to her that their thoughts and ideas are valued in class. "I do my best to answer student questions as they arise and use the opportunity to explain concepts in different ways that help the individual student's understanding, as well as appeal to a variety of different student learning styles in the classroom," she said.

Julie looks forward to encouraging her students to keep an open mind and to believe in themselves as they are working towards their goals.

"I am excited to share my enthusiasm and love for learning with my students by teaching them ways of thinking about mathematics that are interesting, understandable, and enjoyable," said Julie. "And I look forward to learning from them, too!"

When she's not teaching, Julie enjoys reading, practicing yoga, and playing with her two pet cockatiels, Tangie and Grookie.
