The University of North Texas community, family, and friends are invited to join us at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, August 19, to celebrate our 2020 spring and summer graduates from the College of Science in a livestream commencement ceremony. The virtual ceremony will include most of the traditional commencement elements like ceremonial degree conferral and individual graduate recognition, as well as remarks from UNT President Neal Smatresk and the playing of the UNT Alma Mater.
No registration is required. All are welcome to watch at the following link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4b_zftvN6ZY&feature=youtu.be
All livestreamed ceremonies include American Sign Language Interpretation. Following the live event, high-quality text captions will be added to the video ASAP.
Can't watch your ceremony when it's live? No problem! Recordings of each ceremony will be saved online for later viewing.
Dean Su Gao will be addressing the newest graduates during the virtual festivities. Dr. Quintanilla, Associate Dean of Undergraduate Studies, helped with planning the virtual event. "We are very proud of our graduates and hope that they are able to join with their friends and family as we celebrate their accomplishments," he said.
During the ceremony, students with the highest honors in the College of Science will be recognized, including 64 students graduating cum laude (GPA between 3.5 and 3.69), another 64 students graduating magna cum laude (GPA between 3.7 and 3.89), and 41 students graduating summa cum laude (GPA between 3.9 and 4.0).
Our hope was that we would join together for in-person ceremonies in August to celebrate our graduates, but as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to unfold, it is clear that we cannot safely provide that kind of event. Even though commencement will not look like we originally planned, we are excited to celebrate the tremendous accomplishments of the Class of 2020. Earning a degree during such uncertain times is an emblem of UNT graduates' courage, adaptability and determination.
