The Dean is pleased to recognize Abi Blackburn as the recipient of this month’s Excellence in Mastering Challenges Continuously (E=mc²) Award! This award was established by Dean Quintanilla in 2023 to recognize outstanding efforts among full-time staff members within the College of Science and its departments.
“I was surprised and excited to receive this award!” said Abi, who has been the front
desk receptionist of the Dean’s Office for the past year and a half.
Abi’s current title is Senior Administrative Specialist, which encompasses many administrative tasks, including overseeing scholarship processes. She also recently started working with the COS advancement team assisting with donor relations and stewardship.
“My average day involves working with faculty and staff to ensure smooth administrative processes and helping students with any general questions they may have,” said Abi. “My favorite part about this job is the people and students I get to work with daily.”
"Abi consistently demonstrates exceptional dedication, professionalism, and a strong work ethic,” said Amy-Marie Ashmore, Executive Assistant to the Dean and Abi’s supervisor. “Her ability to manage tasks efficiently, handle complex situations with ease, and support the team with unwavering commitment has made a significant impact; she makes the Dean's office a welcoming and pleasant place for students, faculty, and staff alike.”
An alum of UNT, Abi graduated in 2023 with a degree in Integrative Studies, and prior to this position she worked for the College of Music as a student assistant. Abi loves to cook, garden, and craft in her free time.
