The College of Science is proud to welcome Melanie Hanna to the University of North Texas as our new Senior Development Officer. With over twenty years of executive experience in fund development and organizational management, Melanie said she is excited about getting to know our College of Science alumni and donors while enhancing student scholarship opportunities and scientific advancement for our Tier-One Research University. Her previous roles include working with nonprofits and educational organizations with a proven track record in strategic planning, major gift cultivation, and advancing organizational goals.
"Fundraising for the College of Science at UNT presents a unique opportunity to support cutting-edge research, innovative academic programs, and transformative student experiences," said Melanie. “This position allows me to help change the trajectory of a student's journey, hopefully making a positive impact in the world!”
At UNT, a Development Officer’s role includes cultivating relationships with donors, securing financial contributions, and aligning fundraising efforts with the university’s needs and priorities. What Melanie loves most about her work is the opportunity to make an impact by connecting people with a cause they care about. She says she sees the role of a fundraiser as a "wish maker."
"Seeing the direct results of our fundraising efforts—whether it's new research initiatives, enhanced student programs, or expanded facilities—brings a deep sense of fulfillment," she said. "The collaborative nature of the role and the ability to contribute to meaningful projects and goals keeps me motivated and inspired every day."
Melanie also enjoys giving back to causes that are near and dear to her heart. When not working, she's actively involved in various community and volunteer organizations, such as the Texas Health Resources Impact Council and the Tarrant County Women United Way Council.
