The Dean is pleased to recognize Channon Sommers as the recipient of this month’s Excellence in Mastering Challenges Continuously (E=mc²) Award.

The Dean is pleased to recognize Channon Sommers as the recipient of this month’s Excellence in Mastering Challenges Continuously (E=mc²) Award! This award was established by Dean Quintanilla to recognize outstanding efforts among full-time staff members within the College of Science and its departments. Channon said she is grateful and surprised to be this month’s awardee.
Channon SommersAs a Senior Administrative Specialist for Teach North Texas (TNT), UNT's innovative math and science secondary level teacher preparation program, Channon handles the scheduling for field observations and covers the front desk, often getting involved with projects around the office as needs arise.
 
“My co-workers create such a fun, positive work environment at TNT, which improves students’ productivity in their learning,” said Channon. “I really enjoy working on the puzzle of our scheduling process and organizing all the details that need to come together on a daily basis.”
 
“Channon is a joy in the office and often checks in with others to see if they need help,” said a colleague. “She dedicates her time and energy to the success of the department and deserves praise for all the work that she does to keep the cogs turning around here!”
 
Before joining TNT, Channon worked as an administrative assistant at a public charter school in McKinney. She moved to Texas from Colorado when she was only eighteen years old. Her daughter is currently a student at UNT, and Channon says that she enjoys watching her excel at college life.
 
“Outside of work I spend my time with my family. I enjoy watching softball, reading, movies and street racing,” said Channon. “I don't have a lot of downtime, but I do what I can to fill my time with things I love on a daily basis!”
