Hannah Snowberger Awarded UNT’s Advisor of the Month

Vice Provost for Student Success Micheal A. McPherson recently initiated a new Advisor of the Month Award at the University of North Texas, and the College of Science is proud to share that Hannah Snowberger of our Health Professions Advising Office was the first UNT advisor selected to receive this award for her hard work, determination, and commitment to student success.

Hannah Snowberger has been on the Health Professions Advising Team since June 2019. Not only does she go above and beyond for our students and staff, but she is also in charge of the new pipeline program between UNT and the UNTHSC Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine. As with any new program, there are unexpected challenges that must be addressed, but Hannah works tirelessly to adapt and make positive adjustments accordingly. As a result, her team and students are adequately served.

"What makes Hannah so special is her 'can do' attitude, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic," said Todd Lang, Assistant Dean of Health Professions in the College of Science. "Honestly, without Hannah, our advising team would not be where it is today. She is a blessing to her team members, the College of Science, UNT, and most importantly, our students."

Q&A with COS Advisor Hannah Snowberger

Q: What do you like most about being an advisor?

A: I love watching students gain confidence through their journey at UNT to pursue their professional goals. I have met so many great students with such inspiring stories that encourage me to be a better person.

Q: What is your favorite thing about UNT?

A: All of the amazingly unique students, faculty and staff that create an uplifting community!

Q: How have you and your colleagues in advising adapted to help students during social distancing?

A: The Office of Health Professions (and most UNT advising offices) are advising students through Zoom appointments. The pre-health advisors have also been hosting "Quarantine Questions" every other week, a time to meet with students and answer questions during this uncertain time.

Q: What do you do for fun?

A: I have a dog, Ricky, who I like to take on walks/ runs while the weather is nice. I also really enjoy container gardening and researching how to grow and care for different plants. Other than that, I appreciate spending time with friends and family. Recently, a lot of that has been on Facetime, Zoom, and the Houseparty app!

Q: What is a good piece of advice you wish you could give all UNT students?

A: Take your time, get involved and enjoy your time in college! Build relationships with people that support and encourage you. And take time to explore new hobbies and interests!

Advising students is a critical part what we do in the College of Science to help them progress towards their dreams. The current pandemic doesn't change that, although it has placed some new challenges in our path. If you are a student in need of assistance, please don't hesitate to reach out to schedule an appointment with an advisor via cosadvising@unt.edu.
